Patrick, of In-Home Personal Trainer Inc., is stepping into the role of Vice President this year. He served for two previous years as a Director. Patrick has a background in real estate and tourism but found, in Health and Fitness, a life-long passion. Once settled in Muskoka he became a certified personal trainer specialist, older adult fitness specialist and fitness nutrition coach. His successful facility in Port Sydney is called "In-home-personal-trainer.org". He trains clients in a one-on-one or group setting at their places or in his facility. Patrick says he is excited to take on the challenge of Vice President of this Chamber and looks forward to working with the Board and the community again this year.
Karen was a local resident of Port Sydney and now lives in Huntsville. She will be returning to the position of Secretary of the Chamber. Karen joined the Chamber five years ago as a volunteer to help out in the office. Karen very quickly became an important member of the Board and brought with her the knowledge of the area and the local community. Nothing is too much trouble for Karen and she picks up the slack in so many areas – helping in the office, shopping and more shopping! We are fortunate that she has agreed to remain as Secretary of the Board and we look forward to a continued relationship.
Patty has lived in Port Sydney for 43 years. She moved here when she was a young child and attended the old V.K. Greer Memorial Public School and then graduated from Huntsville High School. Patty started Butler Books in 2002 serving the Muskoka Area, offering on site bookkeeping, computer training, system set-up and income tax preparation. As well Patty is a certified Quick Books Pro Advisor. This busy lady is also a part time instructor at Georgian College, Muskoka Campus, and is a youth leader at the Riverside Baptist Church. Patty is also a guest instructor with the Women in Business Program, and is presently completing her Diploma Business Administration/Accounting from Georgian College. Glad to have you on board Patty.
Karen was the Board Treasurer for three years and was extremely commited and dedicated to the job. These last two year she served in the capacity of Director and she has agreed to serve again this year. Karen is extremely committed to the Port Sydney and Utterson community and works hard to promote the members of the Chamber at all the Chamber events. We welcome Karen back to the position and look forward to another successful year.
Tom became a director of the Chamber four years ago and has been a welcome addition to the team. Tom has been the one to organize getting a BBQ for the beach area at both the winter carnival and the Canada Day event. He not only gets it donated for us but he delivers, sets up and returns it as well! Tom enjoys working with the Chamber team to promote the Port Sydney and Utterson area.
New to the Chamber this year, Maggie has been a Muskoka resident and community supporter for almost 25 years. She and her husband, John, moved to Port Sydney in 2010. Previously a small business owner, Maggie now enjoys her work as a Real Estate Broker & Accredited Senior Agent with Chestnut Park Real Estate Limited. She is looking forward to being of service to the Board and Chamber members throughout the coming year
Welcome to Carla O'Neill, new director of the Chamber for 2013-2014. Carla has started a new business venture and has become an Independent Consultant for "Steeped Tea". She offers home parties to sell loose leaf tea and accessories.
Carla has been a resident of Huntsville for 17 years and has lived in Port Sydney for the past 13 years. She is married and has two children. Carla has been an active member with the Autism Community and runs an Autism Parent Group which at the moment is mostly a networking system.
Carla is looking forward to being a director of the Chamber and more active member of the community."
Port Sydney Electric
Derek worked for several years as a cook in Guelph before beginning his 5 year apprenticeship and becoming an Electrician in 2003. He and his spouse, Sandra, chose to relocate to beautiful Port Sydney in 2004 in time to begin their family of 2 children. Derek became a Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor in 2008 and opened his own company: Port Sydney Electric. Derek joined the Chamber in 2010, was honoured with the Outstanding New Business of the Year award in 2011, and has become a Director in 2013.
Volunteering in the community is a high priority for Derek. You can find him teaching Sunday School at Knox United Church, canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society, volunteering for student field trips and Family Fun Nights with V.K. Greer Memorial Public School, and dressing up as ‘Mr. Duck’ for the annual Stephenson Lions Club Duck Race. Although his restaurant days are far behind him, Derek is still handy at the grill and was happy to help with the BBQ at the Chamber’s 2013 Canada Day celebration (see picture). As a Director, Derek is looking forward to helping the Chamber to promote local businesses
